Baltimore | Tuesday Night

It was slower than usual on the island with everybody gone. Diego was never the type to be idle so he took this as his chance to go to Baltimore and fight some crime. It wasn't that hard to get a feel for the city and he had already stopped a mugging in progress. Without stabbing anybody, even!

He decided to patrol for a little while longer, keeping to the shadowy areas of the streets because he was wearing a domino mask and even he could admit that was a bit weird.

Diego had not expected to run into Danny and Steve on a date. It would have been cute if it hadn't been for the tail behind them.

He still kept to the shadows, listening to the happy couple bicker about french fries while waiting for the right moment to confront the guy. After all, he wasn't a complete heathen. He didn't just stab people for no reason.

Usually.

It wasn't a date. It was just the promise of food and company while occasionally sharing long, lingering looks.

"Of course you have an issue with the word 'disco', you also think Sexy Eyes is a good song, so your opinion is invalid."

Tail was texting ~someone~ to let them know about those darn, meddling cops. Once that was done, out came the gun. How predictable.

"Sexy Eyes is a great song," Steve replied, but his eyes were darting around their surroundings.

Something didn't feel right.

Oh look, a reason to stab someone!

Diego stepped out of the shadows like a low-rent Ratguy and whipped a knife at the gunman's wrist. Well, the knife was actually whipped towards Danny but then took a sharp right and then a left to hit the gunman's wrist.

Danny definitely did the concerned soccer mom thing of shoving a hand in front of Steve's chest like that would protect him or something at the cry of pain and clattering of a gun to the ground.

"What the hell?"

Steve was diving to retrieve the gun, now that it was on the ground.

He'd worry about the whiny criminal in a sec.

Dang that was a nice dive, Steve. Diego appreciated the commitment.

He pushed up his mask into his hair--he knew he wasn't that well concealed what with the giant scar on his face--and moved a bit closer.

"Hey, make sure your friend gives my knife back." The one sticking out of his arm, yes.

"Did you throw a knife," Danny asked. Well, demanded, really. Now that Steve had the gun and all.

"Oh my God, it's sticking through the other side," their whiny criminal buddy groaned.

"Don't pull guns on people, then," Steve lectured him from the sidewalk. "You'll be fine."

And Steve wasn't gonna lose sleep if it turned out the guy wasn't going to be fine.

"Yeah, I did, and you're welcome," he said, looking over Danny's shoulder to give the bleeding guy a look. "Should I just let him shoot you guys next time?"

There probably would be a next time too, let's be real.

"No, you don't get a 'thanks' for throwing knifes around like a lunatic," Danny informed Diego. "And why are you dressed like a commando?"

Steve. Steve, he found someone crazier than you finally.

"Oh god, I was just supposed to scare you!" Man, they used to hire scarier people for crime syndicates, didn't they?

"We're Five-O," Steve said, still optimistic that someone on this coast would know what that meant. "We don't scare easily."

Steve smiled at Diego. "And thank you. My partner's being rude. Want me to get your knife back?"

From out of that guy's wrist? That would probably not really, really hurt!

"If you would be so kind." At least someone here had manners.

"Oh god," their knifed buddy said, going pale and just looking terrified.

"Tell us who sent you and I won't let him," Danny said immediately, shooting a warning glare to both morons he had the misfortune of working with.

"We're an offshoot of the Pink Panthers," the guy stammered, taking a few steps back from Steve.

Steve squinted. "Seriously? That's the name you went with?"

Diego snorted. “You guys were being tailed by a group named after a cartoon character?”

Big talk from someone whose superhero group was called The Umbrella Academy.

"They said, they said to keep an eye out for you after the lizard thing," he continued to babble. "Look, I'm just in it for a paycheck. The economy is bad right now, you know?"

Real talk from the punctured criminal.

Danny turned to fix Steve with the stink eye for that. Not because he caused the economic downturn that was caused by late stage capitalism, but the lizard thing.

"Maybe look into a job that doesn't include lizard smuggling," Steve said pointedly. "And he still wants his knife back," he said, jerking his finger at Diego.

[knife_bender]

"You two are into some weird shit, you know that?" Diego asked. "And, yeah, I really do like that knife. Come on, it's not like you'll bleed out it's just your wrist."

"Says the guy dressed up like a ninja!" Danny said, tossing his hands up. This might be the best time to get the knife back while Danny was distracted.

Steve yanked it out of the guy's wrist and he shrieked. "Oh, get over yourself," he said, rolling his eyes. "I've been shot a lot and didn't bitch about it."

[knife_bender]

"Hey, thanks man," Diego said to Steve. "My outfit outfit is practical. Easy to get blood out of."

Their friend fainted at that, hitting the ground with a dull thump.

"Jesus Christ," he sighed, rubbing his eyes. "I'm calling for an ambulance."

It was a shame they didn't ask more about who was looking for them, because now a van was screeching over in their direction. Because one bad guy was never enough.

"That's not an ambulance," Steve said observantly, checking the gun he'd just requisitioned from the passed-out guy to make sure it was in good working order.

It was weird Diego looked excited about this, right? That was weird.

"I gotta admit you guys have pretty interesting date nights."
