Yesterday was a...success? If one could call beating the shit out of a guy in a stupid looking uniform a success. It hadn't really done a lot to make Diego feel better overall, but at least he felt like he did something other than sit there twiddling his thumbs.

Now he really didn't have much to do until class on Friday (where he was determined not to go down so easily next time!), so he was having a quiet evening in with American Ninja Warrior on TV and a protein shake because his cooking skills were non-existent and that counted as dinner.

It was a cool scar!

“That’s very true,” Diego said, running his hand up her side. “How are you feeling now?”

"Mostly fine," she said honestly, peeking down at herself again. (It was honest as long as she continued with the assumption that this was how she felt physically, of course.) "I mean, they kinda sting and it hurts more if I put pressure on them at all? The worst part was how hard it threw me -- I haven't had the wind knocked out of me like that, like...since I took tae kwon do as a kid?"

But, you know, as far as being shot with a fifty-cal round went, it was probably a preferable outcome.

“That was probably their intention,” he said. “So it hurts when you put pressure on them? Guess I’m going to have to be really careful when I’m doting on you.”

"Very gentle doting," Annie said, smiling. "I mean, if you'll recall, I wanted to sleep on the couch, I was so gentle in my doting on you."

She hadn't, because...you know. She had no willpower sometimes.

“You think I should sleep on the couch tonight?” he asked, lifting an eyebrow.

"I do not, and I will tackle you and drag you back to bed if you try," Annie informed him, shaking her head.

Which, like, as soon as she said it, she realized did not sound much like a disincentive.

“That wouldn’t help the healing process very much,” Diego laughed, leaning down for a kiss.

Annie reached up to cup his face, just because she was feeling a little clingy with all of this.

"You don't know. You're not a doctor," she murmured. Maybe it would help!

“Just a feeling I have,” he teased before kissing her again. He shifted slightly, moving closer but not settling on top of her like he normally would.

Annie sighed softly, running her hand along his arm and rising up a little to meet him. "Then don't make me tackle you," she said, like that was the obvious and logical conclusion. "Just stay in bed with me while I heal for a little bit."

And touch her as much as physically possible without hurting her in the process, please, because that was where Annie was at right now.

"I can do that," he murmured. "Come on, let's go to bed. We can do yoga in the morning."

"Okay," Annie agreed, even if she was already fully intending to not be here in the morning, as much as she wanted to just stay. It felt like tempting fate to assume Homelander wouldn't notice if she was gone a couple of days without some kind of explanation.

But for right now, she really needed to be comforted and to just kind of decompress from the onslaught of trauma that had been her life lately, so she carefully pushed herself up off the couch and reached for Diego's hand. "Bed it is. I'm entrusting my care to your very capable hands, here."

"Well you haven't seen me play nurse yet," he joked, taking her hand and helping her up. "I could be really bad at it."

"To your as-yet-unproven hands, then," Annie amended lightly, standing and taking the opportunity to kiss him again.

"Better," he said, lightly placing his hands on her waist. "It's less pressure on me."

"I'll tell you a secret," Annie murmured, going up on her toes a little. "I'm already feeling better, so maybe you're good at this."

Nurse Diego apparently mostly just needed to medicate her with kisses, though a dose of Not Dealing With My Nightmare Life For A Minute would also not go amiss.

"Think I missed my calling?" he joked, walking backwards towards the bedroom.

"Maybe, but I feel like there are a few reasons you probably shouldn't consider nursing full-time." It would be a waste of his talents. He had, like, no bedside manner with anyone but her. Needles existed. "Like how nurses don't wear leather and I'd miss that."

Or that one.

"That's a good point," he said. "I guess I'll only use my skills on you. While wearing leather."

Not that he was wearing leather right now. She had caught him at a casual time.

"Or sweatpants," Annie offered, leaning up to kiss him again, leaning very lightly into him. "Or anything."

Or nothing.

"But so far the skills are good."

"I left the ice in the living room," he murmured. "So the skills could be better."

"Then you should probably go get it," Annie replied, pulling back to raise her eyebrows at him. She trailed her fingertips down his arms appreciatively before taking a full step away to head over towards the bed with a smile. "It's important, right?"

Look, she would have left the ice out there if he hadn't brought it up, but since he had....

He sighed. "I guess you're right. Think you can get into bed without assistance?"

"If you hear a thump, you'll know I failed," Annie told him seriously, already unbuttoning her jeans.

"That's not making me want to leave, you know," Diego said, looking down at her hands. "I mean, I'm gonna, but that's cruel."
