You know those little cardboard disks at the bottom of frozen pizzas? Turns out you were supposed to throw away that part before putting it in the oven. As Annie and Diego discovered, it can catch on fire.

See this is what happened when they didn't just stick to protein shakes and/or Danny didn't feed them.

Diego's apartment was still in tact, luckily, it just smelled vaguely of smoke, burnt pizza and cardboard. Which was why all of the windows were open despite it being freezing out. Diego didn't mind too much though, they had a pizza delivered--which they should have done in the first place--and now were cuddled up on the couch under some blankets.

All in all making the best of a bad (or stupid) situation.

"Are you saying I should be doing a better job warming you up?" he asked.

"I mean, I definitely could be warmer," Annie told him, pulling back enough to offer a sly little smile. "But we're a team, Diego. We have to work together to stay warm. You freeze, I freeze."

Aww, that was sort of cute, as far as transparent excuses to keep cuddling went.

"Teamwork, huh?" he asked, leaning in to kiss her neck. "You know that's not usually my best skill..."

"I would argue otherwise," Annie replied, helpfully arching her neck towards him and skimming a hand under his shirt to rest against his stomach, "but maybe I'm biased as the only other member of this little team. I think we work great together."

It probably helped that it was a very small team. More of a couple, really.

"Just a little bit biased, yes," Diego said before biting down again, a little harder.

"It's a fair bias," Annie decided, her breath hitching just a touch. "But I suppose we could try closing the windows, if you're opposed to the teamwork thing...."

Considering Annie was all but in his lap at this point, she was much more in favor of just staying right here under these blankets. (Closing the windows later, after it got even colder, was clearly a fine plan. Pff, foresight.)

These two couldn't read the instructions to a frozen pizza, foresight wasn't exactly their forte.

"Oh I'm not opposed," he said, moving his hand from her back to her ass oh-so-subtly. "I just need some more practice."

Diego was about as good at subtlety as Annie was at foresight.

"We're basically survivalists," Annie pointed out, sliding her other arm around him. "Having no choice but to band together for warmth, here." Oh no, no choice but this one, exactly. "Our resourcefulness is impressive."

"Now do survivalists keep their clothes on or off?" he asked. "Body heat is skin to skin, right?"

"You know, I've always heard that, too, but that seems so counterintuitive," Annie teased, pretending to think about it. "You'd think it would be way warmer to keep everything on. Bundle up, even. Maybe I should go get my coat?"

"Don't you dare," Diego said, tightening his arms around her just in case she had any ideas about getting up.

She wouldn't dream of it - again, it was too much effort to get up out of the cozy blanket situation here and close the windows, so retrieving her coat was equally out of the question - but Annie was still going to be a smartass about it. "We should probably put on some, like, bulky sweaters. Extra layers," she tried, unable to keep from smiling.

"I take back what I said about you being my hero," he teased.

"Well, that's sad," Annie said, very sadly indeed. Ignore the obvious difficulty she was having in keeping her face straight. "Here I am just looking out for everyone's best interests. Heroism isn't always sexy, Diego. Sometimes you have to make tough calls about sweaters."

"What makes you think I even own any sweaters?" he asked. "Unless you've been sneaking them into my wardrobe."

Turtlenecks didn't count!

They so did. "Well, no, but now I feel like I should start. Everyone should have at least one really cozy sweater," Annie decided, pulling her hand out from under his shirt to tug a blanket up a little higher around them. And then yeah, her hand went right back under that shirt, her fingertips trailing lightly up his chest.

He smiled. "I can just take off the shirt you know."

[defenderofdesmoines]

"I love how you never make me work that hard," Annie replied, smiling as she leaned in to kiss him and pushed that shirt of his up a bit more. "Mine should go, too. Skin to skin is legit probably warmer."

Also, you know, she liked being naked with him. Like a lot.

"Are you suggesting I'm easy?" Diego teased, sitting back a bit to get his shirt off. "Your shirt should definitely come off too."

For warmth. Yes.

"You're definitely not, like, hard to get," Annie assured him, reaching down to pull off her own shirt and lightly toss it away. "Which I've always appreciated, for the record."

And, okay, she might have burrowed back into the blankets kind of immediately once it was off. It really was pretty cold in here. She wasn't just being cute.

Did it help that he was settling himself against her as soon as they both had their shirts off?

"I'm really only easy with you," Diego said, letting out a contented little sigh at the feeling of her against him.

It helped a lot, yes, and Annie smiled as she moved in to kiss him again. "Then I appreciate you making an exception," she teased softly, staying close and tracing the fingertips of both hands up his chest now that there was more freedom for her to do so.

Diego smiled into the kiss, very happy that they ended up here despite the fire and the open windows. It was impressive, actually.

And it was keeping him warm!

Annie shifted a little against him, working a hand around her back for a moment before she neatly reached out of the blanket nest and dropped her bra onto the floor. Because ironically enough, it really was a lot warmer with fewer clothes.

And with that taken care of, obviously she was pressing back in close against Diego, but she also was going to go ahead and reach her hands up to his face as she kissed him. It was partly to help warm his face, too, but also mostly because it was just kind of her move.

"Much better," Diego murmured between kisses. He slid one of his hands up to her chest and lets all be very glad his hands were warm from being under the covers.
