It had been a really, really good honeymoon so far. Sure, they hadn't found any untouched ancient ruins to explore and potentially break, but they had been to the beach a lot, and seen some truly awesome views.

And there was also the part where they'd occasionally spend a day not leaving the hotel suite, like today. Those days were just as good. Shame it'd be over in a few days.

"Look, this food has been great," Diego said, looking over the room service menu. "But I'm actually kind of dying for a cheeseburger right now."

"Just like, an American cheeseburger?" Annie asked, teasing a little as she leaned to read over Diego's shoulder. (And to rest her chin on said shoulder, because she was feeling cute and had been since the fifteenth.) "Not one with poblanos on it or like, stuffed with queso fresco?"

She got that. Everything here was awesome and fresh and delicious and there were definitely a few things (like this room and the beach and the honeymoon of it all, but also the food) that she'd miss when they returned to Fandom in a few days, but something greasy that tasted like home also sounded kinda great.

"I mean, those can be on the burger," Diego said. "I'm mostly in it for the french fries on the side."

Remember fries, Annie?

Annie's wistful sigh said that yes, she remembered fries. She hadn't had fries since before the wedding, even.

And then she said the most Midwestern thing she had ever said in her life.

"Think they have ranch?"

She had not seen ranch dressing anywhere near this resort for the better part of a fortnight, but that didn't mean they weren't hiding it somewhere in case some chick from Iowa wanted to dip her fries in something great.

Diego laughed. "I'm sure they keep some ranch around for disgusting Americans like us."

"Great Americans," Annie corrected, tilting her head to kiss his cheek. Just them, not the country in general. (And it also wasn't really a defense of ranch dressing, which was largely indefensible if also yummy.) "I could get in on some honeymoon fries."

They only had a few days of appending 'honeymoon' to things as a descriptor; Annie was gonna take what she could still get, there.

"And honeymoon fries come with ranch," Diego said with a nod. "Any other requests? Milkshake?"

"Don't tease," Annie replied with wide eyes, peering at the menu and seeking out shakes. "Yes please, but if I break out from all this sugar and grease, you have to stay married to me."

That was the rules, Diego. And also something she was just not at all sick of referencing yet.

Diego turned his head to give her a kiss on the cheek. "You break out all you want, honey."

"You're my favorite husband," Annie told him happily, tilting her head to turn that into a real kiss.

(Which was an emphatic yes on the shake, and her skin would survive just fine.)

Diego smiled into the kiss, lingering there for a moment. "Doing my best to keep that title."

"We're -- what, eleven days into this?" Honeymoon time was different from normal time, but Annie was still pretty sure she had that right. "I think you're pretty much acing the husband thing so far."

She also thought she was pretty much great at being a wife so far, based on this honeymoon.

"We'll see where I'm at during my yearly review," he joked. "You're nailing the wife thing, by the way."

"The yearly review that we'll conduct on a clothing-optional beach, right?" Annie checked. "I see that going well for you."

Little did Annie know, of course, that by this time next year, she would have severely diminished interest in nude beaches. At least for herself.

"And thank you," she added, leaning in for another kiss. "I think we're both really well suited to these positions."

The positions of being married to each other, that is.

"We are," he agreed, kissing her again. "What flavor of milkshake do you want?"

"Strawberry," Annie requested after a moment's thought, shifting to press a light kiss to Diego's jaw in thanks. "And if there's an option for whipped cream, you know I'm in on that."

That was probably true for life. Like, the day Annie said no to whipped cream was the day to check her temperature or whether she'd crawled out of a pod.

"I know you are," he said with a grin. "Let me order this stuff...and I guess put on actual pants to open the door."

"Why rush?" Annie asked, snagging an arm around Diego's midsection and shifting those kisses to his neck. "I mean, it's gonna take them a minute to bring it here, anyway. And they'll knock."

Annie would dive into something that covered her up as soon as that knock came, mind you -- possibly just bed -- but...until then, it seemed like a shame.

Diego grinned, leaning back against her. "Well I suppose I can order the food pantsless."

"You can also eat it pantsless," Annie pointed out helpfully, nuzzling along his neck.

He could also order it with Annie doing her level best to distract him on the phone, so good luck with that.

(At least they'd chosen a popular enough honeymoon destination that the staff here was definitely used to couples acting like this?)

Oh, the staff had to have seen some horrifying things for sure.

"If I order something weird by accident it's your fault for distracting me." But he was tilting his neck towards her, so obviously he didn't care that much.

"I will happily take that blame," Annie assured him, and that seemed like an opportune moment to shift from kissing to a light bite, just to make sure she had his attention. "I mean, I kind of see that as one of my chief wifely duties -- distracting you."

To be fair, she had also seen it as a girlfriendly duty, and then a fiancée-ly duty, too.

Diego huffed, smiling as he valiantly tried to focus so they wouldn't starve to death. "I'm not downplaying your skills, but it's not exactly hard to distract me."

"Give yourself some credit," Annie chided. "You can be very focused when you want to be."

Want being the operative word, and don't mind Annie shifting around to his side so she could drape her bare legs across his lap. Just to help with his focus, okay?

"That's sweet of you to say," Diego said, running his free hand over one of her legs. He spent another moment on the phone before tossing it to the side. "There. You better hope I didn't get you something gross by accident."

"I don't think they even have anything gross here," Annie replied, having mostly behaved herself during that additional moment he'd spent on the phone. She had restraint sometimes. Just meant she had to lean over to kiss behind his ear now to make up for it a bit. "And if they do, it's just part of the adventure."

Like the sunken treasure or whatever they still hadn't found. They still had days left here! It was possible!
