Diego and Annie had gotten back pretty late last night and immediately flopped into bed. They were both covered in bruises, Diego had a concussion and Annie had emotionally been put through the wringer. They were due for some actual sleep. 

It was later than usual when Diego managed to get out of bed, and shuffle out to get coffee from the kitchen, still limping slightly from being thrown around by Stormfront. He had gotten a mug out of the cabinet and was half-turned towards the coffee machine when he noticed a bald lady mannequin sitting at his kitchen table.

"Oh, Jesus!" And now there was a broken mug on the floor. Thanks, Dolores.

"I thought you were supposed to be bulletproof," Five remarked, finding a seat.

"I am," Annie said lightly. And she'd even proven it for the first time recently! "But I pissed off some other, bigger bulletproof people."

Figuratively speaking. Stormfront probably barely cleared five feet.

You know, back when she'd been...able to stand.

"Well, next time be ready to hit back harder," Five replied like that was the best plan for all things. Just complete aggro.

"I mean, we won," Annie couldn't help but note. "We just took a couple hits in the process. I got to kick a Nazi in the teeth."

Diego had the story about the dick and the hand; Annie had Almond Joys and Nazi-kicking. No one had normal stories here, no.

Five could share how he made sure the Hindenburg went down!

"A Nazi?"

If Diego time travelled, they were all screwed.

"A Nazi. Friends with Hitler and everything," Annie shared. "She's like a hundred years old or something."

So no, no time-traveling. Just immortal superheroes.

"Oh." Five said like that was less concerning than what he thought happened. "I'm sure Diego enjoyed that."

[defenderofdesmoines]

"He got to blind her," Annie said proudly. "It's been a busy few days." Since, yeah, this effectively had nothing to do with that concerning hand photo Five had received. "But, like, how many people can say they've fought an actual Nazi?"

"Millions of people during the second world war?" That one triangle shaped teacher at Paintball?

"People who are my age, in the year 2021," Annie amended with a roll of her eyes.

But yes, also the triangle-shaped Paintball teacher. Annie would need to find a way to shoehorn that into some hero worship bring that up.

"I'm sorry if Diego worried you," she added, looking sincere about that.

"I wasn't worried." He was worried. "He says he hates everything about our father, but still playing out his goal of a superhero."

"I mean, your dad's not wrong that the world needs heroes. It's just that his execution seems to have kind of sucked," Annie said, not especially delicately. "And Diego wasn't so much superheroing as...like, taking out superheroes who were abusing their power."

And getting yelled at by one. And surprised by another. And watching another self-immolate, and -- like, Diego had had a busy week with the less-super heroes in Annie's universe.

"You mean he was a megalomaniacal asshole." Annie. Annie. Five did not need anything sugar coated. "Does the world really need superheroes or are they just creating new problems? Place seems pretty shitty either way. Unless that hand was meant to get you into Disneyland, of course."

[defenderofdesmoines]

"It was meant to get me out of jail," Annie replied, shrugging a shoulder. "And I don't know -- we exist, so we might as well help, right? Or at least use our powers to make sure no one else with powers rampantly electrocutes anyone or runs through people at the speed of sound, or whatever."

Just to take a couple of random examples.

Five cocked his head to the side at that. "Your world is very strange. And this is me saying it."

"You don't have to tell me. My life was saved by an Almond Joy last week," Annie said tiredly. "You should get Diego to tell you about the guy he saw choke our friend, too."

Annie hadn't been there. Also it just seemed like a story that might be weird to hear from your brother's girlfriend.

"But I think we're done with my world for a bit," she added. They'd better be.

It would be weird to hear from Diego too, but that was his life.

"Might be wise," he agreed.

"Things were fine here?" she checked. "It was nice of you to introduce Dolores, finally."

Yeah, Five, she was just going to act like that was normal. Like she had with the spite plant. It was her only defense.

Which was appreciated by Five! Not that he'd show it other than with a nod and a hint of a smile.

"She shouldn't be cooped up in that terrible dorm room all the time."

"Well, she's welcome here any time," Annie said graciously, because this was now her apartment too and she could make offers like that. "Though, like, a heads up might be nice next time. I don't want to startle her."

See how she framed that? It was just for Dolores' benefit.

"You mean Diego." Because someone tried to blame poor Dolores for breaking a mug.

[defenderofdesmoines]

"Well, or for Dolores to get hurt because one of us was startled," Annie noted with a little incline of her head. "You know how we both get."

She mostly meant Diego, too, though Dolores would also probably not do well with being blasted, either.
