A bar in Baltimore | Friday Night

Diego was a pretty simple guy. He didn't require anyone to go all out for a bachelor party, which was why he was fairly confident Luther could pull it off without it being a complete disaster.

There was a bar. There was karaoke at said bar, and the added benefit of there being arcade games at said bar. Perfect way to get a bunch of dudes hammered the night before a good chunk of them had to leave on a trip overseas.

[For the dudes who better get off their ass and sing. Hold for some OCD We're good to go!]

"Nah, I ain't a Supe," MM assured him, letting the question roll right off him since he could tell how innocently it had been asked. "Kind of the opposite, to be honest -- our, uh, group works to sort of keep superpowered folks in check."

There, that was a nice way to explain that Billy Butcher routinely tried to kill out-of-control superheroes with little more than a crowbar and some temp V. Probably the nicest way he could have put it, really!

Steven nodded like the concept didn't throw him. "Ah, I see. We've something like that on my world. Laws and the like. There was an organization as well but it got a bit buggered."

You know, because of the Nazis.

"Really?" That was interesting. "Where I'm from -- the superheroes who need checking are the organization and the law. We're kinda more underground, as a consequence."

Because the organization in MM's world also had a Nazi problem! What a coincidence!

What a coincidence!

"The ones on my world are more free agents I suppose you could say?" Steven said. "There's a team, the Avengers, but they're not for hire or anything."

Heroes for hire. What kind of silly universe would have that?

"Some sort of are the government though," Steven continued. "One's a king, for example."

"....how's that going for y'all?" MM asked cautiously.

By his expression, it might be easy to tell that a Supe as a world leader was quite the literal nightmare for MM. God, it was bad enough Victoria Neuman was running for Vice-President.

"Not me personally," Steven said. "Though I can see how I steered you wrong there since I am British. No different country. Wakanda. He's connected with Bast, I'm told. Haven't met her personally but I've heard she's nice."

MM, who assumed that Bast was maybe the Prime Minister of this country he'd never heard of, nodded though he still looked a little dubious.

"I think decent heroes might be a little thinner on the ground where Annie and I are from," he offered with a slight smile. "She's one of about...three Supes I'd trust with anything more complicated than a pencil sharpener."

"I've not met many in my world," Steven admitted. "I've only seen them in the news and the like. But they seem like nice people. Though where I'm from it's not like there's loads of them. Maybe it's only the nice people who feel like doing it?"

At some point Steven would remember that just because someone wasn't in the news didn't mean they didn't count as a superhero. Particularly since that description applied to himself after all. But today wasn't that day.

"Or," MM suggested with the light cynicism of someone who had had a Mercedes thrown through his childhood home by his universe's equivalent of Captain America, "they got good PR. You ever see one not on the news?"

You know, just out...living their lives, stopping criminals, running through random women on the street, et cetera.

"One was famous before he was, er, famous," Steven admitted, not sure how else to put it. "Though he's gone now. Died saving the world and all that. Now you see him about on statues and things."
