MHA #2 Sunday Morning

Yesterday had been uneventful for Diego, and he only minimally teased Annie about somehow getting roped into teaching before going back to his place and doing what they usually did when they were alone together. He probably should have known that an average day was just a prelude to a truly weirdass day.

Right now however everything was calm and quiet and Diego was fast asleep with an arm and a leg flopped over Annie because being unconscious would not stop the cuddling.

He ignored that remark because damn it he was not dating mom.

"What are you doing here?" he asked. "Here on this island, bothering me."

"I have powers, like you do. I'm not an android," Annie said quietly, rolling her (glowing, yellow) eyes as she turned the Poptart over in her hands to make sure she was toasting it evenly. Because that was the important thing that needed to be corrected here, obviously.

Also she was curious about the 'what are you doing here' thing, too.

"That's not important." Oh, she'd find out soon enough. "I have more important things to do than babysit you, don't worry about it."

He'd constantly be checking in to make sure Diego wasn't doing anything life-threatening. But he'd be surly about it.

Diego looked over at Annie because this was insane, right? This was absolute insanity happening here?

"You were the one who broke into my apartment, idiot."

"You're lucky we didn't kill you," Annie agreed mildly before taking a bite out of her now-warm Poptart. Because seriously, between the stabbing and blinding potential, this was a very dangerous apartment to try to break into! And they were both bad people to surprise!

"I've killed more people than either of you could hope to know," Five replied, rolling his eyes. "You could try your best."

"For fuck's sake, Five, nobody wants to kill you," Diego said. "She's just pointing out you should knock before coming in, like a normal human being."

Look they barely made it to the bedroom as it was half the time, who knows what he could have seen!

He looked Five over, finally noticing what he was wearing. "Be right back."

Yeah just leave your girlfriend with your psychotic brother while you rifled through your closet. That's fine.

It truly was a miracle that they had been dressed. (Honestly, kind of a milestone! They could sleep together and actually just sleep with clothes on! Annie had thought it was cute before it had been incredibly convenient.)

Although, like, not so much with the cute feelings at the moment, since thanks, Diego, she was just going to stand here with your incredibly weird brother while you did fuck knows what.

"So how's the future?" she asked conversationally, because what the hell else was she going to say?

"Terrible. The planet and everyone on it was dead," Five said with some aggressively fake cheer.

At least Diego didn't leave her for long? Not long enough for things to get really weird at least.

"Here," Diego said, shoving clothes into Five's hands. "Don't say I never gave you anything."

"Oh boy, stylish," Annie noted dryly, because the future sounded awful but she also couldn't tell if maybe Five was joking? So it was just a lot easier to focus on the fact that she totally recognized those clothes.

It was possibly why he said it that way. Also, all that sweet trauma and social isolation.

Five frowned for a moment, running his fingers over the fabric as he remembered the last time he wore this dumb thing. "Thanks. Get better coffee next time."

And teleported away rather than show emotions or say goodbye or something normal like that.

Diego sighed, rubbing at his forehead. He wished he hadn't broken his coffee maker because now he really needed coffee.

He looked over at Annie. "Still want to meet the rest of my family?"

Annie sighed, giving a little shrug as she broke off half her Poptart and offered it out to Diego, because that little shit had taken the box with him, damn it. "They're not all like him, right?"

Though, seriously, based off of what she'd already been told and what she had seen for herself, the Hargreeves did not have a great batting average as far as...like, niceness. At this rate she was hoping she might be able to befriend Allison, if she was lucky.

"No," Diego said, accepting the Poptart. "Some of them are worse."

"Who?" Yeah, no, Annie was calling bullshit. "Who is worse than that?" She gestured at the space where Five had just been, a little worried he might reappear at any second.

"Luther. Vanya," he said. "Five can be funny if, you know, it's not you he's making fun of."

Now was not the time to bring up Vanya's book, though she really, really wanted to talk about that.

"Well, Luther is on the moon, so I wasn't planning on meeting him anyway," Annie said agreeably enough. "How do we keep Five from doing that again?"

Because seriously, Diego, they did a lot of private things, and if Five showed up during one of those times Annie really might try to kill him.

"...I don't think we can," he admitted. "He's always kind of just popped in wherever he wanted."

Which was extremely annoying but Diego was used to it, even with the sixteen year break.

"Maybe he won't do it now he knows I have a girlfriend?" Doubtful.

"If he comes in here," Annie said very slowly, "and we're - "

Okay, she wasn't going to put a verb in there partially because she was too rattled to come up with a polite euphemism, but also because frankly they did a lot of things she wouldn't want Diego's brother to see. Not all of them were sexy! (Most of them were. But there was also a lot of really sweet, intimate cuddling that was private! And Annie's middle-of-the-night Poptart raids, damn you for taking the box, Five.)

" - I am not responsible for my hands," she concluded, wiggling the fingers of one hand at him to make her meaning very clear.

"Understood," Diego said, unable to keep from smiling at that. "Please, feel free to kick his ass."

"He moves fast." So it wasn't like she could throw him against a wall, as was her preference, sigh. "So like is he going to be around all the time, now? What the hell was that?"

Oh, sure, Annie, ask the relevant questions after Five left.

If he was going to be around, though, she would at least have to give it a second try on getting him to like her. (And a third. And a fourth...)

"I have no idea," Diego said. "And don't expect me to get answers because you saw how he is. He's an asshole."

"I still don't get why he's a little boy?" Annie added, like if she thought about it hard enough maybe she could come up with an answer. "But also he says he's, like, older than my parents?"

That was very confusing.

"Time travel," Diego said with a shrug, like that explained everything. "The last thing Dad said before Five ran off was that he was making a mistake messing with time travel. I bet that drives him nuts -- nothing is worse than when Dad is right about something."
