MCA #9 | Tuesday Morning

Diego was a gentleman last night and walked Annie home after her shift at the bar. What happened after wasn't very gentlemanly per se but it was enjoyed on both sides. Sleep happened eventually but only after what was probably considered an obscene amount of cuddling.

The cuddling thing was kind of still happening even while Diego was still asleep this morning. He had whatever limb he could wrapped around Annie. Maybe this was why his code name was The Kraken?

Annie snuggled closer to Diego with a sleepy mumble, curling an arm around him. She didn't even have the handy excuse of being codenamed after a many-tentacled sea monster; she was just that cuddly.

She had already been semi-dreading having to go back to Iowa in less than a month for Christmas, but if this was the treatment she could look forward to when she returned...that wasn't so bad. Between the cuddles and the everything-before-cuddling last night, she was pretty content, and even more content to just stay here for as long as she could.

Diego ran one of his hands down Annie's back lazily. He was very slowly waking up but he had nowhere to go and really there was nowhere he'd rather be right now.

He would agree that her going away wasn't so bad so long as this happened after. It kind of made everything worth it.

"'Morning." That was not an especially coherent or eloquent greeting, considering Annie murmured it pretty much directly into Diego's chest before tucking her head in against his shoulder, but at least she was acknowledging being kind-of awake. That had to count for something.

She also knew, in theory, that she should probably be hopping out of bed and into her running shoes like usual, but she was - spoiler alert - probably going to skip or at least postpone today's workout and encourage Diego to do the same.

"Morning," Diego mumbled, pressing a kiss onto the top of Annie's head. He was definitely postponing his workout today. Some things took precedence. Namely, cuddling. "We don't have to get out of bed anytime soon, right?"

"Nope. Unless you want to go for a run or something." First of all, Annie was pretty sure it was raining, so it was already an incredibly unappealing idea, but more importantly, she punctuated that statement by draping one of her legs across Diego's.

If he wanted to leave - and he didn't seem to want to, so it was kind of a moot point anyway - he'd have to untangle himself from her, and Annie was doing her best to make that pretty much impossible, so....

Diego smiled. "No, I definitely do not want to go for a run. It's too much effort to untangle myself."

"Good," Annie decided with a happy sigh, trailing her fingers lightly along his arm. "Then we can stay here all day."

Staying in bed all day with Diego was kind of Annie's new favorite activity, and she clearly wasn't all that worried about coming off as clingy about it, either, considering the literal clinging going on.

It really was lucky she found a guy who encouraged clinginess and was just as clingy in return.

"All day?" Diego repeated with a lazy smile. "You don't think someone will send out a search party for us?"

"I feel like that would be a really quick search," Annie admitted, trailing her foot along his leg with a smile. "And no one's gonna look for me until like, at least tomorrow." And even then, it wasn't like she had commitments beyond being a bar regular during her friend's shift.

"That's a good point," he murmured. "Staying in bed all day it is then. Hope you don't get bored of me."

"Nah. You're pretty good at keeping me entertained," Annie teased softly. Pretty good. "Especially since I spent like, the last week redefining 'boredom.'"

Seriously. She had basically almost wasted away in Iowa, between missing him and just the general lack of anything exciting.

"Was it really that bad?" he asked. "I mean, I know it's Iowa but..."

[defenderofdesmoines]

"I mean, it was nice to be home," Annie offered, because it had been. For like a day. "But I would have much rather been here. Way too much Mom time and not nearly enough to do. I basically worked out like all weekend."

Which was part of how she would justify skipping training today.

"That's pretty much what I did too. Minus the mom thing," Diego said. "I missed you."

"I missed you, too." Annie shifted against him, angling her head up so she could kiss him, still sleepy and lazy. "Our timing was not great."

She would have missed him anyway, but the sleeping-together factor had made it just this side of unbearable.

"It could have been better," he agreed, kissing her again. "We're doing a good job making up for it though."

Maybe they'll get used it by Christmas and will stop being clingy the next time she goes home? No, probably not.

Almost certainly not.

"Mm-hmm." Annie smoothed a hand along Diego's chest, just enjoying touching him. She kind of couldn't get enough of just, like, feeling him close to her. "And at least like, the island's cooperating with my plans, here." Because that would just be her luck, to come back and promptly turn into a bat again, or something.

She didn't know about the polar bears yet. Not that they'd interfere, but still.

"Shh don't jinx it," he said, laughing lightly. "I think the island can hear you."

"I've been warned there's a bunch of stuff coming in December," Annie noted, mostly amused. "Pushy mistletoe and weird stuff from the faucets again."

She stretched against him, smiling slowly. "So far, so good, though." Annie, seriously, this is how you jinx people.

"If I get hit by weird stuff I'm blaming you," he teased, lightly running his hand up her side.

[defenderofdesmoines]

"I think you're gonna get hit with weird stuff no matter what I say," Annie told him, pressing a kiss to his neck. "But if you want to blame me, sure."

As long as nothing weird hit them right now, for like at least a couple hours, she'd be fine with that.

"What is pushy mistletoe anyway?" he asked.

[defenderofdesmoines]

"Apparently exactly what it sounds like," Annie replied, kissing his shoulder, now. "Sentient mistletoe that tries to get people to kiss each other. Sometimes with literal pushing."

A pause, and then she added, "Not just people. Summer had to kiss a squirrel."

[knife_bender]

There was a long pause. "...that's disgusting."

"I know. She's the only one I've heard that for, though. I think it's mostly people-on-people action," Annie assured him. "And for what it's worth, I promise to fight it if anything tries to get me to kiss anyone but you."

She'd at least try to fight it off, anyway.
