Diego tried his very best to not be That Guy and demand he know his wife's every move. She was an adult, he knew she was with friends, and she was fine during that whole Rey thing back in August. He was sure she was fine.

But come on, a phone call would be appreciated!

He was just going to be pacing the apartment, trying to think of logical reasons of why she hadn't called rather than convening an emergency meeting of The Umbrella Academy to solve the mystery of "where the fuck did my wife go and why hasn't she called me?".

[For one! That Annie came home looking rough is fine for broadcast but specifics on Wanda's shenanigans are NFB]

"We need to get you your own power grid or something," Diego joked as he unhooked her bra and pulled it off. "Pants next. You stand, I'll stay down here."

"Okay, I can help with this part," Annie told him, actually huffing out a genuine little laugh (that wasn't even crazy!) as she stood and started unbuttoning her jeans. "But you might be onto something. Maybe I need to find like...a power plant to train at."

That might be bad for the people who used the power plant for their...like, homes and businesses, Annie.

"Exactly," he said with a little grin. "You'll be flying around in no time. And possibly knocking out power in a whole town."

"See, that's not ideal," Annie told him, wriggling gingerly out of her jeans with another little laugh. "But I do need to get better at it. Eventually. Maybe that's what I work on while not lifting weights."

Look at that: kind of a joke! Because let's be real -- all Annie was going to work on in the near future was how quickly she could take down a whole bag of Almond Joys by herself.

"Just so long as I can be your spotter," he said, helping her out of her pants. "I think this one sock is a goner, babe."

She had been shoeless for a good bit.

"Spotters for life," Annie told him with a soft, fond smile as she flexed out her foot and sighed at her sock before toeing it -- and its mate -- off. "I've never lost a shoe while fighting before. Points for originality."

There was kind of a lot of that going on, with all this. Whole lot of firsts for Annie this week.

"Yeah, I've been hit with a shoe but never lost one of my own," Diego said as he went to tug down her underwear. "Do you need my help getting into the tub?"

She had been walking around just fine (if limping slightly), but he didn't want to have any accidents making it worse.

"No," Annie told him, leaning on the counter just a tad for balance as she stepped out of her underwear. "But I love you so much for asking. And for -- like, this is really nice, Diego. You're sweet."

And she needed sweet, right now.

"Thanks," he said, standing up to give Annie a kiss. "But I'm your husband. Kind of comes with the whole package."

"Well." Annie leaned up into the kiss, sliding an arm around his waist loosely and trying to focus on how soothing it was to be close with Diego. "Then I'm grateful for my sweet husband."

Married less than two months, and already kind of tapping into that 'in sickness and in health' thing.

"Well I'm grateful for my strongass wife," Diego murmured. "You go relax, I'll order some food."

"Okay," Annie agreed. (It was an easy thing to agree with.) "And then I'll fall asleep on you on the couch."

While watching a burning log for lack of anything else, not that she knew that part yet.
