Elliot's Apartment | Morning
They had all managed to make it back to Elliot's after the grassy knoll, somehow avoiding cops, FBI agents and nosy Texans who thought they could perform a citizen's arrest.
But they had made their impact. Their faces were all over the news as the people who killed President Kennedy.
"...Lee Harvey Oswald. Vanya Hargreeves, wanted in connection with the deaths of several FBI agents inside the federal building at Dealey Plaza. A Cuban exile known only as Diego…"
"Cuban?" Diego repeated.
"...who recently escaped from the Holbrook Sanitarium."

Annie | Annie reached over to give his arm a gentle squeeze. A little casual racism from the news was, you know, exactly what everyone needed right now. "Oh, hey, they gave me credit for helping you get out," she noted with a rueful little huff as her blurry face appeared briefly, before the newscaster moved on to criticize Luther for awhile. "Great." They hadn't gotten her name, but that wasn't much of a comfort |
Five | "--Allison Chestnut, a radical responsible for instigating and organizing the recent riots at Stadler's lunch counter. And, finally, Klaus, the controversial cult leader and tax evader. The FBI is also asking the public to be on the lookout for this unidentified boy, who they believe is being held hostage by the suspected terrorist network." At least no one was being left out on their little America's Most Wanted moment there. "Well, it's true. I do feel like I'm being held hostage most days," Five remarked. |
Diego | "God, I hate that photo." He could have done so much better on a mugshot. |
Allison | "They said I instigated the riot? That's unbelievable," Allison scoffed, really focusing on the important part of the broadcast. |
Luther | "Look, the good news is we restored the timeline and stopped the apocalypse." That was worth the utter humiliation of the world knowing his boxing name of "King Kong". |
Diego | Diego rolled his eyes. "Yeah, we're a real bunch of goddamned heroes, we let Kennedy die." |
Annie | "Hey, not for lack of trying," Annie offered, looking away from the television to frown at him. "Maybe we can try again." Apparently that kind of shit was on the table, now? Maybe? |
Allison | "Yeah, and now we're officially the most wanted people in the world," Allison replied. "The FBI is after us, the Dallas police, the Secret Service. It's only a matter of time before they hunt us down here." Not exactly the best case scenario, apocalypse aside. |
Vanya | "Where are we supposed to go?" Vanya asked. She had basically just been in downtown Dallas and a farm since she got amnesia! |
Klaus | "Well I have this yurt outside Reykjavik," Klaus chimed in, totally being helpful here. "We could totally lay low there. The folks are a little weird, but lovely." See? His cult came in handy! |
Five | "Hey, numbnuts," Five said, not all appreciating the cult connections. Because they were ridiculous. "Hiding's not going to make a difference here. The Commission will hunt us down wherever and whenever we go." |
Diego | "He's right," Diego said. "They'll never stop." Oh look who became a Commission expert after one afternoon. |
Five | Like a kid going away to college and coming back with Some Opinions. "I'm sorry, since when are you an expert on the Commission?" |
Diego | "Since I got back from there." That's right. Suck it. |
Five | "What?" Clearly he was still recovering from the paradox psychosis here. |
Diego | "Yeah, they headhunted me." Well, Lila headhunted him because she had a weird crush. "Offered me a job. Full time with benefits, which I had to turn down." You know, due to the whole apocalypse thing and having a life in Fandom thing. |
Five | Yeah, that would have made more sense to Five to hear. "They headhunted you, the village idiot?" |
Annie | Annie might have had more of reaction, had she not been really exhausted both physically and mentally at this point -- y'all were kind of a lot to take for a whole week, even without shenanigans -- but she still found it in herself to flip Five off for that one. Because seriously. Fuck's actual sake. |
Diego | Diego appreciated the support! "What, I'm not allowed to be headhunted?" Diego asked. "Only the almighty Five needs to be in demand?" Was this the time for this fight? Absolutely not. Was it gonna happen anyway? Absolutely. |
Allison | Allison sighed and sat back to mostly just enjoy the show here. Because this was the Hargreeves at their finest, really. Her and Klaus were just going to wait right here until a solution could be reached or someone needed to get smacked. By her, not by Klaus. |
Five | "Diego, you're not Commission material, all right? Got an obstinate nature to you," Five replied, doing his very best to make sure Diego understood it. Or just to be more of a dick for the hell of it. |
Diego | Diego was not 100% sure what obstinate meant, but he knew it was an insult. "Who do you think it was that figured out Vanya was the one that causes doomsday and stopped it? Me." |
Klaus | "Hey!" Klaus chimed in, not that any of them would be listening to him. |
Diego | Diego was absolutely not listening to him. He had a point to make, here. Five wasn't the only one who could do cool time travel shit. "I figured it all out on the Infinite Switchboard." With Herb's help but shhh. |
Five | "You were on the Infinite Switchboard?" If you thought Five would suddenly respectful, you misunderstood their whole relationship. |
Diego | "Hell yeah, I made that thing my bitch," Diego said. "Y'all gotta recognize I got things going on y'all don't even know about!" Even he didn't understand most of it! |
Allison | "I'm sorry, you've got things going on?" Sorry not sorry, but Allison had her doubts. |
Luther | "This isn't helpful," Luther said, looking at Annie. He knew nobody would be able to wrangle Five, but at least she had a chance of wrangling Diego. |
Annie | "It's not," Annie agreed, reaching out to slide a hand around Diego's bicep. (Focus, January.) She was glaring daggers at Five still, anyway, but forced herself to try to think of something nice to say. What would their mom say? How would Grace defuse this? ...Annie didn't know how to bake anything. Fuck. "Arguing isn't helping," she settled on, blowing out a breath. "Can you just stop sniping at each other? What about Team Zero?" |
Diego | "I'm one member of Team Zero who wasn't sitting around playing with himself." Again, it was by total chance that he got kidnapped and forced into a job at the Commission. He literally had no say in the matter. |
Allison | "Then dispense with the dick measuring for five minutes," Allison suggested. |
Klaus | "Unless you can, literally, 'cause Ben and I--" Oh, Klaus was back to being Klaus again. It felt good. |
Luther | Nope. Nope, no way Luther wanted to know the end of that sentence. "We don't have time for this. The Feds could be here any minute." Which was kind of a cool sentence to say, but he'd focus on that later when they were safe. |
Allison | Honestly, he saved all the siblings a lot of trauma by cutting Klaus off. Not that Allison was going to give him credit here because, "That's what I've been saying!" |
Luther | "And I'm agreeing." Uh oh, another fight was brewing. It was generally a bad idea to have more than three of them in a room at a time. |
Five | It was just how they reacted to impending mortal peril! "Okay, calm down, Hairy--" Five began to, gasp, defend Allison. |
Annie | "Can you get a grip?" Annie snapped, about up to here with the insults today. |
Luther | Thank you, Annie! Not to mention -- "It's King Kong, okay?" Get it right! "We need to move, that's our only option." |
Diego | "We need to box the windows and stay here." Sure, this place had gotten Elliot killed but they had all these cool dental tools they could use as weapons. |
Annie | "I can kill their vehicles if we hear them approaching," Annie offered, thinking that might help bridge the distance between staying and going. "Long as we get me somewhere I can see 'em." Elliot had died here. It was part of why Annie didn't feel right running away. |
Vanya | "I'm leaving." Vanya totally understood the urge to stay here, but she couldn't stay here. |
Allison | "What?" Allison asked, ignoring the rest of their siblings for now. "And go where?" |
Vanya | "Sissy's farm," Vanya replied, knowing that was going to get an eyeroll from someone here. "Something's wrong with Harlan, and I need to help him." |
Luther | "Vanya, we need to stick together, okay?" Luther said. "Now more than ever." Like, they had been in trouble before. But not this kind of trouble. |
Vanya | "That's why I'm telling you this. Whatever's going on with Harlan, I think I might have caused it," she explained. "He drowned, and somehow I was able to bring him back to life." Which was a scary sort of power to have, and they would have to examine that later. "And now it's like we're connected. I can't explain, but I know he needs my help," Vanya said. "I need your help too. I'm scared. And for the first time in my life, I don't wanna do it alone. I want my family by my side." |
Five | Uggggggh it was killing Diego to have to go against that. He could tell Vanya was being sincere, but what could they possibly do for some kid? "Look, I'm sorry," he said. "But we have other priorities right now." Man, that made him feel like their dad. |
Five | Yeah, welcome to the club. "Diego's right. For once. We need to make our stand here and now." The Commission was coming. And soon. |
Vanya | Well that hurt. "Okay," Vanya said, turning to leave. "I guess I'll see you when I see you." |
Klaus | Well, she was going to have Klaus on her side here at the very least. Because he followed her out not too long after she'd left, taking the front passenger seat of the car Vanya had gotten into with a reassuring little smile at her. |
Annie | And just a moment or so later, here came Annie opening Klaus' door. "Scoot over," she told him succinctly, smiling over at Vanya. "Let's go help your little friend." She was pretty sure she wasn't going to be the last one into this car, but she'd also had enough of the bickering and hadn't bothered to check whether anyone had followed her out. There was a child in trouble, and that spoke to Annie's calling as a hero more than standing their ground here. And besides, there was a sort of balance to this. She wanted to ally herself with Vanya, now, as a show of support after everything that had happened between them last year. |
Allison | Well, Allison and Diego weren't too far behind, with Annie opening the back door to ask, "Got room for two more?" |
Vanya | Vanya smiled, more touched by this than she could say right now. "What about the Commission?" |
Diego | Diego shrugged. "Well, we might as well do some good before we die horribly." And Annie leaving first gave him a kick in the ass he needed about being a superhero. |
Klaus | "Woo hoo!" Was that to the dying horribly or the being a family or being super heroes? It was hard to tell with Klaus. |
Five | Ugh to all of that, but there was Five anyway, opening the door to the front seat to look over at Vanya. |
Vanya | Five was honestly the last person she'd expect to join them. "Five, you don't have to." |
Five | "I know," Five said shortly. "You owe me one, sis." She didn't really, but he'd be bitchy about it nonetheless. He eyed Klaus and Annie for being in his seat. "Children ride in the back." |
Klaus | "Okay." Yeah, Klaus was gonna just... go back there now without a fight. |
Annie | Annie was not going to go over the seats like Klaus did, but she did obediently step out of the car and open up the door to the backseat, where she climbed in to take a seat in Diego's lap. "There's totally three spots up there, but whatever," she murmured, but it was good-natured grumbling more than anything, and she pressed a kiss to Diego's cheek as she got settled. Not that she'd had any doubt the others would follow, but she was really proud that they had, anyway. |
Vanya | Vanya turned to look at all of them. "Guys, I don't even know what to say." |
Luther | Wait, you were missing a Hargreeves! Luther was obviously not going to fit in the back seat. Or the front seat. So he had to open up the back and start crawling into the trunk space, the car lurching precariously under his weight. "Anyone makes a fat joke and I'm out of here." |
