Hargreeves Mansion | Unnamed City | Day

Okay, well, there were some psychopaths after Five and Diego had to find him and deal with that. He would get to that in a moment. First, he had to give Patch the head's up about said psychopaths because she kept ending up where they were.

Patch

"What did you do now?" Harsh greeting, but fair.

Diego

"Wow, rude." But fair. "I had a run in with the masked psychos."

Patch

Patch's frown probably could be felt through the phone. "Didn't I tell you to say away from those guys?"

Diego

"I didn't go after them, and one was a woman so don't be sexist," Diego started. But given more time, Diego probably would have gone after them himself.

"They came to my house, looking for my brother," Diego said. "They tried to kill my family."

And only Diego was allowed to threaten his family, so there was a big problem here.

Patch

"Diego, let me handle this," Patch said, tone softening. "You aren't equipped."

Diego

Diego huffed. "You've always loved telling me what to do."

Patch

Patch rolled her eyes. "Maybe, just this once, let's try things my way."

Diego

"I can't," Diego replied, before hanging up the phone.

Diego

Five was still MIA, and somebody had to track him down and tell him people were out there trying to murder him. He figured he'd look around the house to find any clues as to where he had gone, but infuriatingly Luther seemed to have the same idea he had and gotten there first.

He'd say 'great minds' but he didn't want to give Luther the compliment.

Diego stood in the doorway and watched Pogo try to talk Luther down as he rifled through Five's stuff.

Pogo

Pogo already looked like he had it with everyone named Hargreeves today. "Like I said, Master Luther, Number Five hasn't lived in this room since he was a boy."

Luther

"Yeah, I know, but we need to warn him," Luther said. "He doesn't even know we were attacked. He doesn't know they're looking for them."

Luther noticed Diego standing in the doorway and gave him a stern look. "What are you doing here?"

Diego

"Uh..." Look, he really didn't want to admit that he had the same idea as Luther.

Luther

"Do you know about Mom?" he asked.

Diego

Diego nodded, leaning against the doorframe. "Well it looks like you got what you wanted, one way or another, right?"

Just ignore the fact Diego was the one that shut Mom down.

Luther

Luther didn't take the bait, but whatever sympathy he had for Diego regarding Mom's demise quickly faded away. "Wanna tell me what you're doing here?"

Diego

"Looking for Five," Diego replied. He left off the "just like you, asshole" but his face expressed that pretty clearly.

Luther

"Let me guess," Luther started. "You're going to save the day?"

Diego

Diego frowned. "It's what I do, asshole."

Luther

Luther huffed. "Last I checked, you sat behind a desk eating donuts."

Diego

"And what do you do?" Diego asked. "Sit on the moon for four years, waiting for orders?"

Pogo

"Boys," Pogo chided. "This is not going to help us find Five."

Diego

Diego ignored Pogo, not giving up the chance to lay into his brother now that Annie wasn't here to stop him. "Keep on being a loyal soldier after everything our father did to you."

Luther

Luther approached Diego slowly, hands clenching at his sides. "What, you mean save my life?"

Diego

"No," Diego said, giving him a sardonic little smile. "I mean turning you into a monster."

Even he knew that was going a little too far, but Diego didn't care much. He was still stinging from what happened to Mom and it was easy to blame Luther for it.

Luther

It was too far. It was one thing for Luther to think himself a monster privately, but he wasn't about to take it from anyone else. Least of all Diego.

Before he realized what he was doing he threw a punch, purposely avoiding Diego's head but putting his hand through the drywall beside him.

Diego

To Diego's credit, he didn't flinch. "Can't hide it anymore, champ."

Luther

Luther took in a shaky breath, pulling his hand out of the wall. "He had a difficult decision to make, and he made it."

Diego

"Grow up, Luther, we're not thirteen anymore." You didn't turn your child into an abomination because you thought it was best for them. You did it because you weren't willing to let go of something you owned, even if you ruined it in the process.

Luther

Luther ignored him. "That's what leaders do, by the way."

When in doubt, play into Diego's insecurity about being Number Two. Wasn't it great having siblings who knew you inside out?

Diego

"He sent you on that mission all alone," Diego said. "Almost got you killed--"

Luther

"Yeah, well, at least he was there," Luther snapped. "Where were you? You and everyone else in the family? You walked out."

Diego

Diego got up in Luther's face. Well, chest. "And thank Christ that I did, otherwise I would have ended up just like you!"

Pogo

"Enough!" Pogo shouted, stomping his cane into the floor. "This house was attacked. We barely got out with our lives. And Grace...she wasn't so lucky. Your brother is missing, and this is how you rise to the occasion? Take your nonsense elsewhere. Now."

Luther

Luther backed down immediately, shoulders hunching. "Sorry, Pogo."

Diego

Even Diego had the good sense to look ashamed. "Yeah, sorry Pogo."

Diego turned to leave, since obviously they weren't going to be finding Five here. When he heard Luther's loud steps following behind, he knew that he was not going to be doing this investigation alone. Great.
