Hargreeves Mansion
The boys (and Annie) had gotten Allison to mansion's makeshift hospital where Grace and Pogo had been waiting. Cell phones once again were proven useful.
There wasn't a whole lot of room with five people and Pogo standing around, but Grace made do with what she had.
"She's suffered a severe laceration to her larynx," Grace said. "One of you will need to give blood."

There wasn't a whole lot of room with five people and Pogo standing around, but Grace made do with what she had.
"She's suffered a severe laceration to her larynx," Grace said. "One of you will need to give blood."
Five | Five glanced around at his siblings before lifting his hand at the same time as both Luther and Klaus. Diego passing on it wasn't a shock considering, you know, needles and all. Never mind that Five had pretty recently also received a little transfusion for his own dumb injuries. |
Luther | "Move, I'm doing it," Luther said, pushing his way forward. |
Pogo | Pogo cleared his throat. "I'm afraid that's not possible, dear boy. Your blood is more compatible with my own." |
Klaus | "Hey, don't sweat it, big guy," Klaus said with a sympathetic pat on his massive, massive arm. "I've got this, I love needles." |
Pogo | That alone would be reason to not let Klaus do it. "Master Klaus...how do I say this...your blood is too...polluted." |
Diego | Oh screw this. "Move, I'll do it." |
Annie | Annie wasn't going to protest or interfere or anything, no -- it had been a long day, and part of her admired Diego for stepping forward even if she knew how this was probably going to go. Which was why she was just quietly positioning herself near him, ready to catch him if needed. 'If.' |
Diego | He definitely looked like someone who was confident he wasn't going to pass out as he rolled up his sleeve with a determined look on his face. And then Grace pulled out the giant (actually regular sized) needle and he immediately passed out into Annie's arms. |
Pogo | Pogo sighed. "Stick him." |
Diego | It had taken a little bit of convincing to get Klaus to go with him and Five to Harold Jenkins' house. Diego wanted to go to find Vanya, while Five was more concerned about finding and killing Harold Jenkins. Klaus wanted to do neither, but a well placed knife throw was enough of a threat to get him to come along. Diego pointedly did not jump through the window again, finding that the front door was left unlocked yet again. |
Klaus | Klaus would be very, very proud of him if he knew about the whole leaping through windows thing. Instead, he was sort of taking in the general mess and then the whole corpse pinned in place with a lot of knives. Like a lot of knives. "That's not exactly what I was expecting." |
Five | "Understatement of the year," Five replied. Because he was helpful like that. |
Klaus | "No sign of Vanya." Other than, you know, the dead guy. Who he did not want to talk to, thanks. |
Diego | Vanya, knives were his thing. Don't take this from him. "Let's get out of here before the cops come." He didn't think he could talk his way out of another murder. |
Five | Yeah yeah. He was very touchy about his knives. "In a minute," Five said, going to investigate the body. Since the guy had a patch over his eye and all, might as well confirm a few things. You know. By shoving a fake eye into his empty socket. |
Diego | "What the hell are you doing?" Five, that was weird even for them. |
Klaus | Yeah, it really was. "Oh, wow," Klaus said, making a face as he watched with horrified fascination. There might have even been a little gag in there. |
Five | You were both babies. It was just a corpse. "Same eye color, same pupil size," Five said, leaning back to observe both eyes. "Guys, this is it. The eye I've been carrying around for decades, it's found its rightful home. We got the guy we needed to stop the apocalypse." |
Klaus | "Yay," Klaus said, looking hopeful. "Let's go." You know. Away from the crime scene. |
Diego | "No, no, wait," Diego said, holding up a hand. "It can't be that easy." Nothing came to them that easily. |
Five | "The note from the Commission said protect Harold Jenkins," Five said, pushing himself up to brush his hands off on his fancy boy shorts. "He's dead." Which was good, right? "But what happened? Who did this?" he asked, mostly just talking to himself before teleporting out of the house to decide how to proceed from here. |
Klaus | "Crazy, but why don't we find Vanya and ask her what happened?" You know. Their missing sibling who tried to murder Allison? |
Diego | It was kind of scary how often he found himself agreeing with Klaus these days. Another sign the world was still going to end. "If Vanya got away from this asshole, she might have gone back to the Academy." Also he didn't like the idea of leaving Annie with Luther for too long. She might die of exposure to stupidity. |
Luther | Grace had done what she could, and now was cleaning up a bit while Luther and Annie sat by Allison's bedside. He could tell Pogo was hovering in the back but he really didn't want to deal with him right now. "Is she gonna make it?" Luther asked Grace. |
Grace | "Yes," Grace said, putting a hand on Luther's shoulder. "But her vocal cords were badly damaged. It was lucky Annie was there to stop the bleeding otherwise you might not have gotten there in time." |
Luther | Luther gave Annie a look, and knew he should be thanking her. He just wasn't really feeling it right now. "Will she be able to talk?" |
Grace | "It's too early to tell," Grace said. |
Pogo | "More importantly, thanks to you, your brothers, and Miss Annie she is still with us," Pogo said from where he had been standing in the back. "Grace and I can take it from here. You should rest." |
Luther | "You are the last person I would trust here," Luther snapped. "I'm not going anywhere." |
Annie | "Allison isn't, either," Annie offered, not unkindly. She was curled up in a chair, trying to take a little inventory of her own injuries without making a big deal of it. Luther's tone startled her a little, though, and her gaze flicked uncertainly from him to Pogo and back. "I mean, I can sit with her. You need to be at your best, right?" Look. She didn't agree with the ranking system, but someone had to keep things together around here. Diego wasn't here (and had passed out earlier, not that Annie would hold that against him), Allison was injured, Klaus was Klaus, Five was Five. So Luther, clearly, would need to keep it together. Especially since Vanya was...apparently, Vanya. And that meant something that no one had seemed to expect. |
Luther | "I want to be here when she wakes up," he said simply. "Besides, I'm not going to get any sleep if I don't know where Vanya is." |
Annie | A little involuntary look of fear crossed Annie's face at Vanya's name, and she nodded in agreement after a moment. "I should have gone after her." But there hadn't been time, with Allison. |
Luther | Luther shook his head. "No, you did the right thing. Allison needed you more." "Thank you for that, by the way." |
Annie | "'Course," Annie said softly, waving off his thanks. "I'm so glad I was there." Her eyes drifted back over to Allison. "You really didn't know? About Vanya?" She believed Diego didn't know, absolutely. But Luther was, like, their dad's favorite. He might have clearances the others hadn't. |
Luther | "None of us had any idea," he said. "Dad must have had a reason for keeping it a secret." Sure, he might have ruined Vanya's life in the process but there must have been a reason. "What was it like? Her powers. How bad was it?" |
Annie | "It was bad," Annie said succinctly, twisting one of her rings a little nervously. "I know I don't look it, but I'm pretty tough, Luther. And I've gone up against some scary people. And I'm telling you, your sister is one of the scariest people I've ever seen. She's powerful, and she's...unpredictable." Or at least she had been, back there at the cabin. And the thing was, Annie kind of understood. But she also knew that that unpredictability and lack of control was what made Vanya really, really dangerous, right now. That was the part that had scared her, more than anything. |
Pogo | "That is precisely why your father hid the knowledge of her powers from you all," Pogo said, moving closer. "Miss Vanya has the ability to turn sound into pure energy, but it is very much tied to her emotional state." |
Annie | "That," Annie said slowly, her eyes widening, "explains a lot." The madder Vanya had gotten, back there, the more dangerous she had seemed -- and everything made sound, so if she could manipulate, like, the sound waves, then.... Like, holy shit. |
Pogo | Pogo nodded. "At first Sir Reginald thought he could teach her to control her powers, just like he had with the rest of you. He even had a soundproof room built in the basement to let her stay in when things...got out of hand." You know, like when nannies died. |
Luther | Luther held up a hand. "Wait, there's a soundproof room downstairs? That nobody ever told us about?" |
Annie | Annie's eyes darted to Allison again before she dragged her gaze back over to Pogo, frowning. "That's where you put her when she was 'sick,'" she said softly, understanding dawning. "When Allison -- when he made Allison rumor her, right?" |
Luther | "Made her rumor--" Luther turned to look at Pogo. "What the hell is she talking about?" |
Pogo | Pogo sighed. "Your father had a very hard decision to make. It was decided that for Vanya's--and your own--safety, it would be best if she thought she had no powers at all. So he had your sister rumor her into thinking she was ordinary." He looked down at the floor, like he wasn't particularly proud of this next part. "He put Vanya on antidepressants, to mute her emotions so her powers wouldn't emerge by mistake." |
Annie | "And then you just kept her like that?" Annie asked softly, a little too upset about this development to just take a backseat like she had been with most family discussions up to this point. As afraid of Vanya as she was right now, it was -- this was absolutely the most fucked thing that Reginald Hargreeves had done to the children in his care, in a goddamn lifetime of fucked things. "Good job, now she's more dangerous than all of you put together, and she's angry about it." |
Luther | "Dad must have had his reasons," Luther said. Of course he did. "Maybe--maybe the only choices were to make her forget or keep her locked away." |
Annie | "He might have thought those were his only choices," Annie acknowledged. "But now they're probably our only choices, because your dad suppressed a problem instead of dealing with it. It's hard enough to learn how to control your powers when you're little." But now Vanya was almost thirty and flying blind. Fan-fucking-tastic. |
Luther | Luther nodded in acknowledgement. "It wasn't the right decision, you're right." It was only because the moon stuff had come out that he was willing to acknowledge that his father made mistakes occasionally. "He shouldn't have kept it from us. Neither of you should have," he said, glaring at Pogo. "The way we've treated Vanya over the years...I don't know if there's fixing this." |
Annie | "It's not right," Annie agreed quietly. "It was never right." The revelation that Vanya had powers certainly changed a lot of things, but the way she had been treated had never been okay, based on what Annie had heard. "And I don't even blame her for being angry. You lied to her for her entire life," she added, looking over to Pogo with a shake of her head. "No coming back from that." Take it from someone who knew firsthand what that felt like. |
Luther | "Well we can't take it back now," Luther said. "We have to find her. If what you're saying is true, she could take out the entire city." Or, you know. The world. "Pogo, the soundproof room--is it still as it was? I mean, Dad didn't renovate it or anything?" |
Pogo | Pogo shook his head. "It's exactly as it was before. If you can get her down there..." Well it held her pretty well as a kid, he didn't see why now would be any different. |
Annie | Annie did not like this idea, and it was written all over her face how conflicted she immediately was. "It's not going to be easy to subdue her if she's --" Annie started, and then just kind of....swirled her hand in front of her in lieu of providing a verb. But the very fact that she said that meant that she'd already made up her mind that this was what was necessary. |
Luther | "I know," Luther said, rubbing the back of his neck. "We're going...we're going to have come at her as friendlies." Which meant more lying, he knew that. "We won't keep her in there for long. Just until we figure out what to do." |
Annie | "It's for her good, too," Annie said earnestly, kind of trying to convince herself she was making the right call here. "Just -- so that she doesn't hurt anyone else." She really, really wanted to believe that Vanya hadn't meant to hurt Allison -- or, for that matter, Annie herself -- that badly. But they also didn't really have enough information right now to...trust in that. Or trust in Vanya at all. |
