Docks | Unnamed City | Night
Diego stopped the car beside the docks, and unbuckled his seatbelt. He left the car running since he wasn't planning to be here long. Just needed to dump off potential murder evidence into the river to protect his robot mother. You know, normal stuff.
"I'll be right back," Diego said, opening the door to get out. "Klaus, don't be weird."

"I'll be right back," Diego said, opening the door to get out. "Klaus, don't be weird."
Klaus | "Don't be weird," Klaus repeated in a gruff voice, mimicking Diego. Because of course he was. What kind of brother would he be if he didn't mock that whole Ratman vibe? He sat back and sighed as Diego went off to do... Diego stuff, he guessed. |
Annie | Annie snorted out a little laugh, folding her arms around herself as she watched Diego go do...yeah, Diego stuff, apparently. "He doesn't exactly have a lot of room to talk there," she commented lightly. Diego's weird behavior actually was kind of worrying her, even if she was also still kind of annoyed with him. |
Klaus | Klaus grinned widely at her for that, leaning forward to rest his arms on the backs of the front seats to look at her. "He's always been like that." Or maybe it was a thing the siblings fell back into because of shared trauma or something. But that wasn't important. Gossip was important. "So you're dating him? I sort of thought he was more into leather and being some kind of Byronic superhero. You're... nice." He glanced next to himself for a moment like he was getting confirmation on that one. |
Annie | "For almost a year," Annie confirmed, shifting to look at him with a little smile. "And thank you. Does it help if I'm also a superhero? Different vibe, similar...career path." Less leather, more sparkles. |
Klaus | Wait, it hadn't been that long since he'd last seen Diego, had it? At that weird, island place with the donuts. "You are?" |
Annie | Time was weird, Klaus. Time was weird. "I am," Annie replied easily, glancing out to check on Diego before looking back to Klaus. "I mean, I'm from a different universe. It's a whole thing. But Diego and I kinda got together 'cause we were both fighting crime in the same area and he threw a knife at me by accident." Even if she was kind of mad at him still, that was the best story. (Besides the thing with the hand, anyway.) |
Klaus | "Huh." You know what, Klaus was just going to accept this. Because his long lost brother was back from the future, but looked 13 again, so it wasn't even the weirdest thing that day. "Hey, do you think we can convince him to get waffles? Because I'm starting to rock a killer hangover right now and could use some diner food." He patted his pockets, producing what might have been cigarettes, but weren't. Then started patting for a lighter. |
Annie | "My sympathies," Annie said, meaning it. Look, it had been a hard day. Maybe she should have done some day-drinking, too. "Oh my God, all I want now is waffles. With like, a whole bunch of whipped cream." So, that was a yes, because Annie was firmly on the side of getting waffles. And maybe some nice nighttime breakfast would help everyone's mood, anyway. |
Klaus | Oh, Annie, he would have offered if he'd known! Then they could be drunk and giggle at everyone as a team. Since Ben couldn't drink anymore and all. "See, you're way too nice to be with anyone in our family," he said with a hazy grin. And he meant that as a compliment! Really he did. He gave up on finding a lighter on his person before starting to check the car seats. Because who knew with Diego, right? |
Annie | "What are you looking for?" Annie asked, instead of addressing that claim. (Today she kind of felt like it was true, even if she knew exactly why Diego was acting the way he was and could forgive it.) "A lighter?" She opened the glovebox, illuminating a hand as she fished through it. "Neither of us smokes, but he might have one." Seriously, who knew with Diego. |
Klaus | Oh no, instead of a lighter, Klaus managed to pull a pair of underwear out from the crack of the seat. "My, oh my." |
Annie | "What?" Annie asked, whipping her head around. And as soon as she recognized the lacy fabric in Klaus' hand, Annie was lunging for it. "Oh my God, give me those!" Goddammit. She knew exactly when that had happened, too. |
Klaus | "Oh-ho-ho! What did you and my brother get up to back here?" Klaus asked, trying to hold onto it so he could torment Diego a little. |
Annie | "Oh my God, nothing." Look how deeply unconvincing that lie was. Especially when paired with how very red Annie was turning. "He needs to clean out this thing more." Because those were from February. Like, at least she recognized them. This could have gotten really ugly if she had not. |
Klaus | Klaus gave her a look that might have seemed sympathetic, but she was still learning how this family worked. "I mean, maybe they're dearest Diego's then. Diego! Diego, we have some questions for you once you're done brooding!" |
Diego | He wasn't brooding, okay? He was disposing murder evidence to protect his mother. Totally different vibe. He realized he probably spent a little too much time doing it when he heard Klaus yelling. "What is it?" he said as he got back into the car. |
Annie | "Nothing," Annie said immediately, deciding it was a lost cause to try to get her panties back (damn it, Klaus) and sinking into her seat, her face still hot. "Nothing at all. All set?" Maybe Klaus would just let it go. Maybe! (Annie was not exactly hopeful after today's crash course in siblings.) |
Klaus | "First of all, we have decided on waffles," Klaus said magnanimously. Because you had to build to these sorts of things. |
Diego | "I agreed to take you to the bus station," he said. "I never mentioned anything about food." |
Annie | "I think waffles sound nice," Annie replied, slanting a little look at Diego that suggested that maybe he owed her some waffles after today, please? "Everyone might feel a little better after some food." She was thankful for Klaus' mercy, though a little distrusting of it, still. Waffles would also maybe help there, too. |
Klaus | Klaus gestured at Annie as he smiled over at Diego. Because that was a majority vote. "Second, I truly need to know where you bought this, I don't think they're the right color for your skin tone," he said, holding up the panties. Because boom, sibling bullshit. |
Diego | "Ugh, Klaus!" Diego reached back to not only grab the panties from Klaus but to punch him in the shoulder as well. Because siblings. "Don't be a pervert!" |
Annie | "I can't believe you haven't cleaned out the car since Valentine's Day," Annie hissed in embarrassment, sinking lower in her seat. Louder, she added, "This is why I deserve waffles." One reason in a long list of reasons today why they all deserved some waffles, really. |
Klaus | "Ooowww," Klaus whined, giving up the panties with a pout. "Yeah, Diego. This is your fault." |
Diego | "Just add it to the list," he mumbled, handing the panties over to Annie. "Klaus, you're going to the bus station--without waffles. Annie, I will buy you whatever you want." He knew he had been an asshole today. He had his reasons, but still. It was a good thing she didn't have a craving for donuts considering what was going on over there right about now. |
Annie | "Fair," Annie replied, her tone a little gentler as she shoved the lacy little garment deep into her purse. She glanced towards the backseat. "I tried." Though her effort had limits. Klaus had kind of chosen taunting his brother over the waffles, was the thing. |
Klaus | Did she not understand how siblings functioned? Was that it? "I take it back, you're not nice at all," Klaus said, slumping back in his seat. He was ignoring Ben's unimpressed look next to him. "She's not," he added to him, quieter. |
Diego | Diego looked at that exchange through the rearview mirror and decided he just wasn't going to ask. He turned over the engine and started to drive to the bus station. "Let's get the hell out of this city." |
